THE NEXT BIG MTB DESTINATION? - Mt. Hough’s NEW Tollgate Trail

Could Mt. Hough be the next big MTB destination in Northern California? After riding the new Tollgate Trail for the first time, I can definitely see why it could be.

For the second descent of the day, we headed onto Tollgate, starting just below the upper switchbacks on the Mt. Hough Trail. This newer trail is completely different from the Mt. Hough Classic, with a great mix of rock rolls, jumps, fast and flowy singletrack, berms, and technical sections. There’s a bit of everything packed into this trail, and it quickly became my favorite part of the day.

Tollgate is the newest addition to the Mt. Hough trail system, with around 10 miles of singletrack. The trail was made possible in part through Shimano’s Trail Born program, helping bring more awesome riding to the area.

We had Yuba Expeditions shuttling us for the day, which was perfect with two big descents on the list. We could finish one run, jump back in the truck, and head straight back up for the next one.

Big shout out to the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship and everyone involved in building and maintaining these trails.

Mt. Hough is located in the Plumas National Forest near Quincy, California. The trails are open to the public and free to ride, with multi-use trails open in both directions.
